The Asheville Track Club’s WNC Grand Prix competition is one of the best around with cash prizes, race discounts and chances to win free race entries! Points are awarded based on your participation and speed in the races we select for the year (listed below). Compete against other Grand Prix members in your gender, division and age group. Run in as few as 5 of our selected races (3 races for kids or 80+) to qualify for an age group award, 10 for a chance at an overall award. This competition is exciting, challenging and rewarding. Race with your friends and meet new ones. Select your races, work on a strategy and most importantly…. Have Fun!

 5-5  Camp STAR 5k or 10k (+ 1 bonus point only)

This is a family friendly trail run/walk for all ages.  All proceeds from this event will be used to serve over 400 6th graders over the summer at Camp Star.  The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputies host a 100 percent free summer camp for the students of Henderson County Schools.  Come run, walk, crawl and have some fun at Camp Tekoa for a day of fun for everyone.  We will also have music, food, and games.

5-11  Cradle to Grave 30k OR 10k Trail Race

30k  (+ 3 bonus points)
Come enjoy 18.6 miles of trail running in the birthplace of modern forestry! The fourth annual Cradle to Grave 30k starts and finishes at the Cradle of Forestry, located just south of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Sliding Rock. You will run out the lush Pink Beds trail past fields of wildflowers and beaver ponds, cross creeks on bridges and rocks, move along forest service roads in the heart of Pisgah National Forest, and climb up to one of the most unvisited and spectacular views of pristine forest land available. The return trip will utilize several different trails, each with their own unique topography, beauty, and characteristics. Your post race lunch will be included in your entry fee. Entertainment will be provided.

Or you can run the 10k

10k (+1 bonus point)
The Cradle to Grave 10k starts and finishes at the Cradle of Forestry, located just south of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Sliding Rock. The Cradle to Grave 10k course utilizes part of the existing 30k course and will have you running the Pink Beds Loop Trail past fields of wildflowers and beaver ponds, while crossing creeks on bridges and rocks. Your post race lunch will be included in your entry fee. Entertainment will also be provided.

    5-18 Run for Holland 10k  (+ 1 bonus point for 10k)   OR Run for Holland 5k

* You can run either distance for points – you will receive +1 bonus point if you do the 10k.

The purpose of the Run For Holland race is to raise awareness in our community about Down Syndrome and other disabilities. Specifically, to raise awareness for parents who have had or are having a child born with a physical or mental disability. We want to show these parents that having a child with Down Syndrome or any other disability is not the end of the world, it is the beginning of a wonderfully different, more fulfilling world.

  5-19  Falafel 5k

Don’t miss out on the only 5K race in Asheville that ends with a Falafel sandwich. Run with us on Sunday, May 19 at 10 am at the Asheville Jewish Community Center at 236 Charlotte Street! A local favorite, the Falafel 5K was voted one of WNC’s BEST road races in the 2015 Mountain Xpress “Best of WNC” poll. All registered participants for the 5K will receive a race shirt (unless the t-shirt free option is chosen).

  5-25 White Squirrel 5k

The 2019 White Squirrel Festival 5K Race and Fun Run coincides with the 2019 White Squirrel Festival in downtown Brevard, North Carolina. Brevard is 151 this year! The race course starts and finishes in downtown Brevard near the Post Office on West Main Street. The course will treat runners to a mix of historic homes, the railroad arts district, farm land and the scenic beauty of the Sylvan Valley and the surrounding mountains.

 

  6-5   $5 5k FootRx Charity run at Fletcher Park (+1 Bonus point only) Partner Run = You run with your partner and the lowest combined time wins. (We will match you up with another runner if you don’t have a friend to run with that day)

All proceeds will go to Special Olympics.
This will be a two loop, flat course. Registration at Red Foot Rx tent in last parking area at Fletcher Park. Suggested minimum $5 donation at registration. Day of registration ONLY! Registration 5:30-6:30pm. Race starts at 6:30pm!
Races will only be canceled if Park does not permit us to run. Information will be posted on Facebook & www.footrxasheville.com

    7-4  Brevard Firecracker 5k 

This year the Brevard Rotary Firecracker 5K coincides with the 2019 July Fourth Festival in downtown Brevard, NC. This year, the City of Brevard is celebrating its 151st Anniversary! For several years the the Firecracker Race has been the kick off event for the July Fourth Festival. Later in the day music, food, dancing, kid fun games, tours, crafts, art and much more fill the cool mountain air in one of the picturesque little towns in western NC. This year the race will start and finish on West Main Street at its intersection with Oaklawn.  The race course has a modest 125 feet of elevation change and features a mix of residential streets, commercial business district and scenic pastures with views of the beautiful surrounding mountains.

7-6  Coon Dog Day 5k

To promote Saluda NC’s Coon Dog Day Festival and the 5K Race/Fun Walk, which is held each year on the Saturday following July 4. Run the race and then stay for the fun at the Coon Dog Festival!

7-13  Crazy 8’s 8k Run

Run the world’s fastest 8K on beautiful candle-lit streets! Brand new course in 2019! Run the unique figure-8 course, with lots inspirational music courtesy of Dashboard Audio. Return to a spectacular finish inside J. Fred Johnson Stadium with cheering fans and rousing music. Finish down the middle of the Dobyns-Bennett High School football field at the goal line!            8-3 LEAF Art Dash 5k 

This is Asheville’s most unique downtown 5k celebrating the art and creativity that is Asheville. Art and Music will accompany your 3.1 mile run/walk through the city. This race kick’s off the LEAF Downtown festival taking place in Pack Square Park

8-31    Apple Festival 8k 

The Henderson County Chamber of Commerce presents the Pardee Apple Festival 8K and Chamber Challenge 5K .This certified course winds through scenic Hendersonville and Laurel Park, starting and ending at the Pardee Cancer Center, on the hospital’s main campus in Hendersonville.

  9-8  Mills River Valley Race 10k/5k/1 Mile Doggy Dash

Bring your running buddy, or furry friend  to the Mills River Valley Races 10k, 5k, & 1 Mile Doggy Dash on Sunday, September 8th! Unique to these races, are flat courses through the valley with scenic views of the Hendersonville mountains. 

Whether you’re running for pace or walking with your “pack” – you’re supporting the Mills River community and the Blue Ridge Humane Society. Each race will start and finish at the Mills River Park, with a doggy post-race party at the end!

9-14    Rock the Quarry 5k

Grove Stone & Sand Company is proud to host the 12th annual Rock the Quarry Trail Challenge 5K and Kids Fun Run! Boasting some of the best views in all of Western North Carolina, the course combines scenic views, private trails, multiple stream-crossings, and a ½ mile span through Grove Stone’s active rock quarry in Black Mountain. Cash prizes for the top finishers and 5K participants are guaranteed a t-shirt if they register by September 4th. Runners and walkers welcomed!

 10-12   Bethel Half   OR 5k (+2 Bonus Points for Half)  * You can run either distance for points – you will receive +2 bonus points if you do the half.

The Half Marathon and 5K Races are run through the lovely Bethel Community south of Canton, NC, about a half hour outside of Asheville.  The fall colors on the trees, the rolling farmlands, the Pigeon River, and the cool weather make this a particularly inviting race event.

      10-19 Run the Forest 5k

Asheville Eye Associates’ 7th Annual Run the Forest 5K and 1 Mile Walk is a community wellness event which will benefit a local non-profit organization each year. Asheville Eye continues to support our regional community health and wellness in many aspects. The Biltmore Forest is a beautiful destination for this race and a way to relax, enjoy nature, have fun, and support a local organization!

10-26 TW8k  (+2 Bonus Points)

Join us for Asheville’s Oldest and most prestigious race – the Thomas Wolfe 8k ~ sponsored by Black Orthodontics.
The race will start at the “Old Homestead”, Thomas Wolfe House at 9am and run through the historic Montford neighborhood, past Wolfe’s final resting place in Riverside Cemetery and back to the house.
Runners/walkers will receive a beer on us, thanks to our sponsor, Catawba Brewing Company. This race is one for the bucket list.
Are you extra fast? There are special sprint prizes for the first male and female to pass mile 1, 3 and the finish line. $50 in gift certificates from Jus’ Running will be awarded to those runners as long as they stay on course and finish the race.

12-8 Hanukkah 8k – The final race in our 2019 Series! 

The JCC Hanukkah 8K  is a community-wide celebration of the 8-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights. Proceeds of the JCC Hanukkah 8K will benefit Shalom Children’s Center.

 Scoring System

* We have added a new bonus scoring system for distance races.  This is in addition to the normal scoring system. We want to give you credit for running the extra distance. Starting in 2015, You will receive the following bonus points.              ( + 1 point ) for any race that is a 10k – 12k                                                                                 (+ 2 points) for any race that is a 15k to  a half marathon                                                   ( + 3 points) for any race that is over a half marathon in distance
